🏫Welcome to the Main Room – Inspiring Confident, Capable Learners
The Main Room at Pennywell Early Years Centre is our maintained school provision, led by a team of experienced, qualified teachers and skilled early years practitioners who are passionate about supporting children’s learning and development. This room is specially designed for our oldest children before they transition into Reception, laying strong foundations for future success in school and beyond.
🧠A Space Where Learning Comes to Life
Our Main Room is a vibrant, purposeful space where every area has been carefully curated to inspire curiosity, challenge thinking, and encourage independence. With a blend of natural resources, open-ended materials, and exciting provocations, children are empowered to explore, question, and create in meaningful ways. Whether they are building in the construction area, storytelling in our cosy book nook, or experimenting in the growing area, every activity supports the development of key knowledge and skills across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Our indoor and outdoor environments work in harmony to provide a seamless learning experience. Outdoors, children enjoy climbing, role play, nature exploration, and creative play, all of which enhance physical development, imagination, and social skills. Indoors, beautifully thought-out learning areas provide rich opportunities for language, maths, literacy, and expressive arts, ensuring that every child is supported to flourish in all seven areas of learning within the EYFS.

📆A Routine Rooted in Purpose and Values
Our carefully planned daily routine offers consistency and security while aligning closely with our school values. Through shared experiences, guided learning, and opportunities for free choice, children develop important life skills such as resilience, kindness, cooperation, and independence. The rhythm of the day supports children in becoming confident learners, prepared for the structure and expectations of Reception.
💞Nurturing Relationships and Community
At the heart of our practice is the importance of strong, nurturing relationships. Each child is assigned a key person, who takes time to build a deep understanding of their interests, needs, and learning style. This key person offers comfort, encouragement, and continuity, forming a vital link between the child, their family, and the wider nursery.
Children also take part in daily key group time, a special part of the day where they gather with their key person and friends. These small-group moments help to build a sense of belonging and team spirit, where children can share ideas, reflect on their learning, and build friendships in a safe, supportive environment.

👣Guiding Every Step of the Way
Through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning, our team ensures that every child experiences a broad and balanced curriculum. We observe, plan, and assess with care, ensuring that each child is continually progressing in all areas of learning. Our bespoke assessments help us to identify areas of strength and areas where children may require a little support. These are shared with you as a parent in our one-page profiles.
Our use of the Learning Journal app📲 means that you’ll always feel connected to your child’s journey, with regular updates, photographs, and insights into their learning and development.
