Our Curriculum – Growing Curious, Capable and Confident Learners

At our nursery, we believe that early education lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to nurture the whole child – socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually – through a rich blend of purposeful play, exploration, and high-quality adult interactions.

Rooted in our core values, our curriculum is built around what matters most to our children, families, and community. We see each child as a unique individual with strengths, interests and immense potential, and we offer them the freedom and structure to flourish.

🌿 Our Approach to Learning

Our curriculum is:

  • Child-centred – driven by children’s interests, questions and experiences.
  • Values-led – closely aligned with our values such as care, belonging, curiosity, communication, capability, and wellbeing.
  • Inclusive and ambitious – ensuring all children, regardless of background or need, can thrive.
  • Rooted in research – based on best practice in early childhood education and aligned with the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework.

🔍 What Learning Looks Like in Our Nursery

We know children learn best through play, connection and exploration. Our daily practice includes:

  • Hands-on, experiential learning that sparks curiosity and encourages deep thinking.
  • Rich communication opportunities to support speech, language and early literacy.
  • Creative and physical experiences to support self-expression and healthy development.
  • Opportunities for problem-solving and independent learning to build confidence and resilience.

We regularly observe, reflect and plan so we can adapt the learning journey for each child – always keeping them engaged, challenged, and supported.

🤝 Working in Partnership with Families

We know parents are children’s first and most important educators. That’s why our curriculum is designed to include the voices and experiences of families. We work in partnership through:

  • Shared observations and learning goals
  • Stay-and-play sessions
  • Home learning ideas
  • Regular communication and celebration of milestones

🌍 Our Local Curriculum

We make the most of our local area, including Pennywell and beyond, to enrich children’s understanding of the world. From local walks and nature play to visiting community spaces, we help children build a sense of place, connection and curiosity.

🎯 Our Curriculum Goals

By the time children leave us, we want them to:

  • Be confident and capable learners, ready for school and life
  • Be kind, respectful, and able to form positive relationships
  • Communicate clearly and express their ideas
  • Show curiosity about the world and take pride in their learning
  • Feel safe, secure and excited about the future

📚 Planning, Assessment & Progress

Our team skilfully plans learning experiences that are:

  • Flexible and responsive to children’s interests
  • Intentional – with clear goals and developmental progression
  • Inclusive – supporting every learner to succeed

We use a blend of observation, reflective practice and assessment to ensure each child is making progress and receiving the support they need.
